In some cases, it might be necessary to re-install video card (GPU) drivers in order to properly use Artec Studio. This is often related to several known issues, caused by the use of unsupported video card drivers, described in the following articles:
If you've encountered one of the above problems, or need to re-install your video card drivers for another technical reason, there are several approaches you can take.
Via Device Manager
Open Windows Device Manager, find your video card in the list of available devices, right-mouse-click on it and then go to Update Driver Software...->Search automatically for updated driver software.
This is the simplest option and the chances are that, if you are using a modern video card, Windows Update will find and install the most up-to-date drivers for you.
Manual Drivers Installation
If the first option did not work, please attempt to manually find and install your video card drivers from the card manufacturer's website. If you use NVIDIA card, please go to https://nvidia.com/Download/Find.aspx enter your system properties, and find the list of drivers available for your card.
In this case, rather than installing the newest available driver, please choose one of the drivers recommended for your respective video card and Artec Studio version (assuming that such driver is available) specified in the following articles:
After finding the correct NVIDIA driver, click on the driver and verify that the driver is intended for the Windows version you use. Also, switch to the Supported Products tab and make sure that your specific video card is on the list. If both of the conditions are met, click the Download button to download the driver installer.
After downloading the installer file, launch the installer and follow the on-screen directions. Please make sure to choose the Advanced installation options and check the "Clean install" box, to make sure that your current driver is completely removed before the new driver installation.
Advanced Drivers Installation
If the two previous options did not work, you might have to perform more advanced driver installation process. This is usually applicable to modern laptop PCs, which use a combination of two cards such as, for example, an Intel HD Graphics and NVIDIA Quadro, or similar setup. Many of these laptops use custom-built drivers compiled by the laptop manufacturer and will not allow you to use the generic drivers, as previously described. Moreover, since on laptops both video cards work together, you might have to re-install the drivers for both video cards and not just the NVIDIA, or another high-performance card primarily used by Artec Studio.
In order to re-install the custom drivers for both video cards, please go to the laptop manufacturer's website download section and search for the drivers available specifically for your laptop model. For example, drivers for HP ZBook 17 G5 laptop are listed at the following page: https://support.hp.com/us-en/drivers/selfservice/hp-zbook-17-g5-mobile-workstation/18865648 Other manufacturers, usually, also provide a search function, which you can use to easily find the necessary drivers for your laptop on their respective website.
Once you found the available drivers for HP laptop, you should expand the Driver-Graphics section. In there, several drivers shall be available for Intel, AMD, and NVIDIA video cards. Since the particular laptop is equipped with an Intel and NVIDIA cards (this information can be verified via the Windows Device Manager) you need to download both Intel and NVIDIA drivers.
If you are not using the latest available drivers, please download and install them as necessary. If you are already using the latest drivers, which is often the case after running Windows Update, it might be necessary to downgrade them instead. To do so, please go to the Previous version section and download one of the older versions of the applicable driver. In our experience, drivers from 2019 usually work well with HP laptops. Just make sure that both Intel and NVIDIA drivers you choose were released at approximately the same time, to ensure full compatibility.
After you download and install the drivers for both video cards, please restart your computer and verify whether or not the underlying issue with Artec Studio is resolved. If the driver versions you chose for both video cards do not resolve the issue, please attempt to install another version, either older or newer depending upon the version you had before.
(!) that after you install the correct video card drivers, it is recommended to turn off automatic driver updates in your advanced system settings. Otherwise, Windows Update might replace your drivers with another version the next time you use it. To do so, please Control Panel -> System -> Advanced system settings -> Hardware -> Device Installation Settings, and choose the "Never install driver software from Windows Update" option.
