I want to recover an Artec Studio project, my HDD has failed

Even if your Artec Studio project was partially or totally corrupted owing to HDD failure or a virus, it is still possible to recover it, using one of the methods below. We recommend to try them in the same order they are listed in this article.

Method 1: Automatic project recovery

An automatic recovery tool has been added to Artec Studio 10.1.2.13, so Artec Studio 10, 11 and 12 utilize this embedded tool. It can restore partially corrupted date when loading the project, so as the first step, try opening your corrupted project in any of these versions. The tool will automatically extract and recover as many 3D frames in your raw scans as possible.

Method 2: Manual re-creation of a project file

The following method requires some knowledge about Artec Studio projects structure, so back up your data before starting to rename your files and carefully follow step-by-step instructions below.

If you are unsure, do not hesitate to contact us at support@artec-group.com, our team will be glad to assist you.

1) Open your Artec Studio project file (*.sproj) with NotePad ++. Basically you need to manually add correct information in section <Scans Count="N">.
2) Open Scans folder of your project, you will see three files with the same name, but different file extensions (*.mscan, *.dscan, *.tscan). They represent every scan or fusion in your project:

3) Now add these file names into section <Scans Count="N"> of your *.sproj file.

For example:

<Scans Count="5">
<Scan Uuid="{706772BC-1D78-4296-8C7A-10A910C1835D}" Name="Scan1"/>
<Scan Uuid="{66E16B10-2CFA-4741-8305-59AD165399CD}" Name="Scan2"/>

4) Save the changes in the file.
5) Open Artec Studio and load your *.sproj file there.
6) You will get an error that the command history is missing. Please ignore it.
7) Click on "Save project" command. Artec Studio will calculate and add extra information to a *.sproj file, for example, number of frames in scan(s).
8) Close Artec Studio, then open it and load the project again. This project is completely recovered now and you can continue working with it in a usual way.

Method 3: Manual extraction of project data

If none of two methods described above help to solve the problem, then use step-by-step PDF instruction attached to the article. In this case you need any software that can work with archives: WinZIP, WinRAR, 7Zip, etc.
