How to optimize the performance of your NVIDIA Quadro

Requirements:

  • Artec Studio 11 and 12 supports NVIDIA Quadro К4100М series graphics cards and later (older Quadro models such as the 1100M or 2100M are not supported).
  • NVIDIA Quadro cards are not recommended for Artec Studio 9 and 10, though they may work under certain settings in NVIDIA Control Panel (see below).
  • Make sure you have a recommended version of NVIDIA driver installed; more information is available in this article.

Recommended settings for NVIDIA Quadro:

We suggest changing the following default parameters in the NVIDIA Control Panel when using Quadro. The sequence below describes how to make this change. Subsequently, algorithms that mostly use the videocard (real-time fusion and texture mapping) will perform faster.

  1. Open Windows Control Panel → NVIDIA Control Panel.
  2. Click on 3D Settings → Manage 3D settings.
  3. Scroll to the end of the list and find Threaded Optimization.
  4. Switch the value from Auto to Off.
  5. Click "Apply" to save the changes.
  6. Launch Artec Studio.

Optional settings for NVIDIA Quadro (these settings are helpful when you're processing extremely large projects):

Our Partners Shonan Design discovered this configuration, which accelerates 3D rendering while rotating the raw scan on the screen:

  1. Open Windows Control Panel → NVIDIA Control Panel.
  2. Click on 3D Settings → Manage 3D settings.
  3. Switch "Global preset" to Workstation App - Dynamic Streaming.
  4. Click "Apply" to save the changes.
  5. Launch Artec Studio.

Dell Precision M6800 laptop with NVIDIA Quadro K4100M:

Some of our customers have reported that the Dell Precision M6800 laptop may randomly switch between the Intel and NVIDIA cards regardless of the settings in the NVIDIA Control Panel. If you're experiencing this issue, follow the sequence below.

Note: if your NVIDIA drivers version is 361.75, please either upgrade them up to 368.39 (for Artec Studio 11) or revert to 354.42 (for Artec Atudio 9 and 10) before following this procedure.

  1. Reboot your PC.
  2. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  3. Navigate to the "Global settings" tab, then choose "High-performance NVIDIA processor" in the combo box.
  4. Click Apply in bottom part of the window.
  5. Return to the "Global settings" tab and click "Restore"; at the system prompt, select "Yes".
  6. Click Apply in the bottom part of the window.

Alternative work-around:

  1. Reboot your PC.
  2. Open the NVIDIA Control Panel.
  3. Navigate to the "Global settings" tab, then "Settings"  and scroll to CUDA - GPUs, then clear the  Quadro K1000M checkbox; click OK.
  4. Click on button Apply in bottom part of the window.
